Taxes in South Dakota are due and payable the first of January. However, the first half of the property tax payments is accepted until April 30th without penalty. The second half of taxes will be accepted until October 31st without penalty.Finance Department

There is a 10% annual penalty for late payments. Please keep in mind, that taxes that are not postmarked by April 30th and October 31st, respectively are also considered delinquent. If you mail your payment on time, and the post office fails to postmark it by those dates, it will be considered a late payment.Finance Department

The deadline to purchase license plate tags and decals is dependent on the first letter of your last name. Geographic Information Systems Division
A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information (i.e. spatial data). This system should include:
- Hardware (computers, printers, plotters, scanners, digitizers, GPS units, etc.)
- Software (programs like ArcMap ArcGISPro, QGIS, etc.)
- Data (files that may be loaded into the software programs, such as roads, town boundaries, parcels, aerial photographs, etc.)
- Staff (analysts, technicians, etc.)

Brookings County is a member of the South Dakota Retirement System (SDRS). SDRS is a state retirement system benefit that is a mandatory requirement for full time employees. Employees are required to participate by contributing 6% biweekly for Class A employees and 8% biweekly for Class B employees. Once the position has closed, it may take several weeks for all applications to be reviewed. The length of time to review the applications is dependent upon how many applications are received. At the completion of the application review process, all applicants will receive notification as to whether or not they have been selected for an interview.Human Resources Division

Brookings County 4-H membership is open to all boys and girls ages 8-18. There are Cloverbud programs for boys and girls ages 5-8. 4-H is open to all youth regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or handicap.4-H

When you join 4-H, you are expected to attend your club's meetings and enroll in at least one 4-H project. Every 4-H member prepares a project or demonstration to exhibit at Achievement Days or a club meeting. Throughout the year, 4-H members complete a record book to record their activities for the year and submits it to their club leader for possible rewards.4-H

4-H is free! 4-H clubs may have small dues to pay for their activities. Other activities may have a fee to pay for things like food, transportation, etc.4-H

A project is an area or interest that the 4-H member wants to learn more about during the year. All members get project materials that will get them started and a leader is usually available to help members with their project work.4-H

Parents are a very important part of 4-H. Parents help 4-H members choose their project, provide transportation and encourage the 4-H'er to do their best. Many parents share their time, skills and resources with the entire 4-H club by becoming project or club leaders. For these activities the leader invites members into their home or meeting place and work on projects or have club meetings.4-H

4-H programs are open to all young people, no matter where they live. There are programs in every community in Brookings County. Some projects that are especially well suited to urban areas include drama, pets, food and nutrition, gardening and rocketry.4-H
